Overseas Vietnamese set up business association
Update :Tuesday, 8-11-2009
About 300 overseas Vietnamese businesses participated in the congress to set up the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association (OVBA) in Hanoi Monday.
At the congress, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem said the Vietnamese government provides support and good conditions for overseas Vietnamese businesses to boost their activities and contribute to the homeland’s development.
To date, overseas Vietnamese businesses have invested nearly US$2 billion in some 3,000 projects in Vietnam.
They remitted over $7 billion to Vietnam last year despite the global financial slump.
OVBA’s first congress had elected a 32-member executive committee, headed by Pham Nhat Vuong, who pledges to fulfill the tasks set by the Vietnamese government and act for the sake of the country, the people and Vietnamese business community.
